Follow these steps to craft and share a persuasive story:

Know your audience

To create a compelling story, you need to understand who the story is for and who will respond and take action.

Define your core message
Try to summarize your story in six to ten words. If you can’t do that, you don’t have a core message.

Decide what kind of story you are telling

Think of how you want your audience to react as you tell your story. Is the purpose of your story to tell people about yourself or is it to impart knowledge or educate? Stories can also be used to convey values.

Establish your call-to-action

What exactly do you want your audience to do after listening to your story? Do you want them to donate money, subscribe to a newsletter, take a course, or buy a product?

Choose your medium

Some stories are read, some are watched, and others are listened to. Your chosen story medium depends on your type of story as well as resources.

Write!

With your core message, audience objective, and call-to-action already established, it’s time to craft your story. Write at least two drafts.

Tell your story

Make sure you get enough practice. Tell your story in front of a friendly audience and get feedback. Measure your pace, and take note of the story’s length and your use of language.
